Lightwater Guesthouse

Inviting, majestic, and architecturally stunning, Lightwater is our flagship guesthouse. Spectacular ocean views, island-crafted beds and old-growth fir trim and flooring-sustainability salvaged from Vancouver Island trestle bridge-brighten all the Lightwater guest rooms.

Heron Nest Guesthouse

Heron Nest is our oceanfront guesthouse set amid the arbutus, oak and maple trees above the beach. Leave your cozy perch in the Lookout Room to bask on the south-facing patio, or follow paths to the beach terrace and the sandstone bench at Sunrise Point.

Some of our sustainability features

  • Lightwater Farm produces a year-round supply of local vegetables, fruits, herbs and flowers for Lightwater Cove’s guests and the community.
  • An extensive water conservation and circulation system collects the water that flows through an onsite seasonal creek into three reservoir ponds, connected by a series of streams, allowing for a total of 4,800,000 gallons of stored surface water.
  • An additional 50,000 gallons of surface water is stored in three underground water cisterns.
  • Premium levels of building insulation and heat pumps provide an energy efficient heating and cooling system.
  • Old growth fir wood floors are made from the trestles of a demolished Vancouver Island railway bridge, constructed in the early 1800s.
  • Complimentary bath products are locally made with botanically sourced ingredients.
  • Lightwater Farm is vitalized by sustainable organic farming methods, including naturally sourced soil enhancers, a robust compost system, crop rotation and seed saving
  • Rainwater from all perimeter rooftop drains is collected and fed back into the pond water storage system.
  • This stored water provides Lightwater Cove with the majority of its water use needs, including farm and garden irrigation and pools.
  • Passive solar hot water vacuum tubes on the roof heat both domestic hot water and in-floor radiant heating.
  • Maple and fir wood beds are crafted by a local artisan from salvaged Galiano Island fir and maple wood.
  • All mattresses are topped with natural latex tree rubber.
  • Certified organic cotton linens are featured on every bed.
  • All cleaning products are biodegradable.

Ongoing enhancements

Our carpenters, stonemasons and landscapers are still working with the land and on the land, so some areas at Lightwater Cover will show signs of ongoing improvement between now and late summer.
